Target Women: Online Show Worth Your Time

By Kelsey Sharpe

Target Women is a recurring segment that is part of Infomania, a half-hour show that recaps major media events each week. Although it airs on Current TV, a cable channel available through a limited number of providers, all the segments are easily accessible from their website. Each week Target Women features Sarah Haskins’s funny, often sarcastic, take on a different subject related to women. Haskins, a writer and performer for the show, has a background in sketch and improv comedy. Ranging from TV channels to political events, the topics cast light on female stereotypes and reveal sexism with a humorous tone.

Here are a few personal favorites:

http://current.com/items/88988193_target_women_wedding_shows - The first target women video, this skewers the woman-focused network We for their inane wedding programming.

http://current.com/items/89019993_target_women_suffrage - Aired the week that Obama clinched the Democratic presidential nomination, this video features the blatant maneuvers made by both Obama and McCain to pick up female supporters of Clinton.

http://current.com/items/89113716_target_women_feeding_your_f_ing_family - This installment is titled “Feeding your f-ing family” and it makes those of us who can’t—or won’t—cook feel a little bit better.

http://current.com/items/89270795_target_women_sarah_palin - We don’t have to stop laughing at Sarah Palin just because the election is over.

http://current.com/items/89416957_target_women_disney_princesses - This one hits a little close to our childhood, but I think we all know by now that the hairy guy living on our floor isn’t actually a cursed prince.
